Stock Market Trading Hours:Find the most appropriate times to trade

NYSE Operating Hours:

The New York Stock Exchange is open Monday to Friday from 9:30am EST to 4:00pm EST. These operating hours are sometimes referred to as the core trading hours of the NYSE.

Extended Hours Trading.

Pre Market hours. Orders can be placed between 8:05pm until 9:25am. The orders placed between these hours are eligible to be executed between 8:00am and 9:29am EST time.

Stock Market Trading Hours: After hours This trading takes place after 4:05pm on Monday to Thursday. These trades are eligible for execution if placed between 4:05pm – 8pm. After 8:05pm, the order would then be eligible for execution in the pre market hours for the following day.

The extended hours trading session is made possible by the computerized matching system known as electronic markets.

This type of trading allows traders to place limit orders to purchase or sell a particular stock.

There is no guarantee that an order placed during the extended trading hours will be filled. The reasoning is simple, the market is closed and there are very market few participants.

This means that there is less liquidity in the market to fulfill a large number of orders.

Remember the stock market is not a 24 hour market, for the novice stock market trader, trading during the core market times, will allow you to witness the stock market at its best. With very little or no frustration in getting your orders filled.
