Stock Market Basics Stock Market Basics for Beginner Stock Market Investors and Day Traders
Stock Market Basics Part 2 Who ever said that you always have to be happy. When I was 12, I read Napoleon Hill, “Think and Grow Rich”. Little did I know that that book would be my reference book for success in life. One fact that I got out of the book was that my brain was very powerful and I could achieve anything I set my mind to, if I just focused on in enough (this was life changing for a 12 year old little girl in Africa). OK, I got that Mr Napoleon Hill!
The next fact that I gained out of the book was that “a positive mental attitude” will lead to a happier existence.
All this knowledge sounds amazing! However, as I went through life,
I realized that this positive thinking stuff was; firstly, a mission and that it didn’t work all the time.
After a year of constant struggle and excruciating pain and low self esteem, I decided to take a break from trading. My trading break lasted 6 months, during this 6 months I gave myself the permission to heal and feel sad. When I initially went into the equities trading profession, I believed like everything else I had attempted in life, I would come out on the other side successful. I would be successful and achieve all the dreams. Stock market trading humbled me and forced me to reevaluate my entire life. During my 6 month break I worked on rebuilding my self esteem, because as any trader who has lost a substantial amount of money will tell you, once the market is done taking your money, the courage to look yourself in the mirror and proudly say that you are successful is truly difficult. I was sad, I was angry, in fact I was extremely mad, at everything and everyone. There was no part of me that was happy and nor believed there was anything to celebrate. This is the stage in my life and trading career where it was alright to be sad and even mad. Change, lasting change never comes when we are comfortable. The lasting success that we all want for ourselves, never comes while we are experiencing comfort. Only during moments of extreme frustration and discontent, do we seek ways and means to move us out of this discomfort.
This process may be easier for women, because women have been known to allow themselves to get in touch with our right side of our brain and become consumed by our emotions, and which allows one to pass through this stage of grief a lot quicker and move to a place where we feel whole again, while
on the other hand men may find the process of experiencing their emotions a lot harder.
No where and in no book or life instructions have we be told to stay consistently stay happy.
Happiness is a temporary state of mind, however, pure joy and passion for our trading career is the ultimate goal.
