Stock Trading Terminology: What is intra day trading?

What is intra day trading?

In short, Intra day stock market trading refers to any stock trades taken between 9:30 am eastern standard time and 4:00pm Eastern standard time.

As an investor, or day trader, if you place a trade at 9:45 am EST and close out your trade before the closing bell at 4:00 pm EST, you can consider yourself as an intraday trader.

If you place a trade, before 9:30 am EST and close out your trade after 4:00pm EST time you are trading outside of the intraday trading period.

For Example:

If you place a trade at 8:45 am EST you are engaging in PRE Market Stock Trading

If you place a trade after 4:00 pm EST, you are engaging in after hours stock trading.
